Steps for sowing seed in module trays

Half-term假期結束,明天又上園藝課,分享一下園藝筆記:

1. Health and Safety: Ensure the environment is safe for handling seeds and compost.

2. PPE: Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), such as gloves, if required.

3. Cleanliness: Ensure all equipment and surfaces are clean and free from contaminants to prevent disease transmission.

4. Read the Seed Packet Information Carefully: Familiarize with the specific requirements and recommendations for the seeds to be sown.

5. Prepare the Compost: Have the appropriate type and amount of compost ready for use.

6. Mix the Compost with Perlite in a 3:1 Ratio: Perlite helps improve aeration and drainage in the compost, promoting healthy seedling growth.

7. Fill Modules with Compost: Gently fill each module in the tray with the compost mixture, ensuring even distribution.

8. Level Off by Tapping the Tray: Tap the tray lightly to settle the compost and create a level surface.

9. Put a Seed in Each Module: Place one seed in the center of each module, following the spacing recommendations for the specific plant variety.

10. Plant Seeds at a Depth Equal to Two or Three Times Their Width: Use a finger or a small tool to create a hole in the compost of appropriate depth for the seeds.

11. Cover the Seeds with Compost: Gently cover the seeds with a thin layer of compost, ensuring they are adequately buried but not too deeply.

12. Water the Tray Gently: Use a fine mist or gentle watering can to moisten the compost evenly without disturbing the seeds.

13. Cover the Tray with Cling Film: Enclose the tray with cling film or a transparent cover to create a humid environment that promotes germination.
